Top 6 Epping Forest Walks
Here are 6 great walks in and around Epping Forest. We have a mix of short family friendly walks or longer epic adventures that take you deep into the heart of the majestic Epping Forest.
1. Epping Forest short walk
1.3 miles
The first walk is a short family-friendly walk into the majestic Epping Forest. There is a big hill to climb initially, which might seem like a mountain to the little ones, but it's all part of the fun and you're rewarded with a nice view and downhill walk on the second half of the walk. There is also a lovely pub opposite the car park for rewards!
2. Epping Forest adventure
5.8 miles
The second route is a longer adventure that takes you deep into the heart of this wonderful forest. There is also a little detour on the route to a nice picnic spot with views. Be aware that the forest is in a hilly area, so you will need energy for this walk and there are a couple of busy road crossings, so please be careful here.
3. Epic Epping Forest
8.2 miles
If you have the energy and time, this final strenuous walk really explores a large portion of the lovely hills and woodland of Epping Forest. As with the second route, there are some busy road crossings on this route and you will certainly build up an appetite for a refreshment stop at the pub by the car park after your walk.
4. High Beech
1 mile
This is a lovely short family friendly woodland stroll around the High Beech section of the Epping Forest. If you want to make it a lovely Pub Walk day out, there's also a wonderful pub on the route.
5. Chingford Plain
2 miles
This is a lovely short, but varied, family-friendly walk starting from Chingford Plain car park and taking you through the ancient woodland of the southern end of Epping Forest. Expect some wonderful woodland walking, a stroll around the pretty Connaught Water lake and lots of forest trails packed with glorious wildlife.
6. Chingford Plain and Connaught Water
4.5 miles
If you have a bit more time, this longer route takes you much deeper into Epping Forest for a lovely and predominantly woodland adventure that also visits Connaught Water lake on the way around.
